Laura Mantin recipient of the Harold van Dyke Memorial Bursary
Laura Mantin joined Kelly’s Tree Care in April 2016 as an apprenticing arborist. Within a very short period, Laura has already shown her unrelenting ambition to become a professional arborist.
She is fearless in her pursuit to learn as much as possible about the industry and to be an active contributor within the arboricultural community. This was easily exemplified through her participation and attendance at 11 different industry events last year throughout Ontario, Quebec, and the US. Her developing climbing skills did not discourage her from competing in 4 different climbing competitions last year which included Jambo, in Indianapolis, Indiana; both the Ontario and Quebec Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championships; and the Tree Care Industry Student Tree Climbing Competition in Maryland, Rhode Island which she placed first overall.
Laura is currently enrolled in the Arborist apprenticeship program at the Humber College. She quickly established strong leadership skills within her class by sharing industry information and encouraging her class mates to participate in upcoming industry events. Laura is also excelling in many of her courses.
It is for these reasons that Laura has been chosen as the recipient of the 2017 Harold van Dyke Memorial Bursary. Harold Van Dyke was a well-respected tree care owner and longstanding active member of the Ontario chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), serving as ISA Ontario chapter’s president in 1969. He was also a strong advocate in providing financial support to arboriculture students. This annual award is open to any student studying arboriculture, forestry, or horticulture within Canada.
Kelly’s Tree Care is very proud of Laura and her well-deserved bursary.
