Mike Watson becomes the new President of ISA Ontario Chapter

The ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Ontario Chapter’s 68th annual Educational Conference was held in Niagara Falls on February 22 to 24. The sold out conference was a huge success with speakers from across North America and Germany.  It was at this conference that Mike Watson, co-owner of Kelly’s Tree Care, officially became the 2017 Ontario Chapter President.

Mike has been on the ISA Ontario Board of Directors for the past 4 years during which time he has been the chair of both the Education Committee and the Tree Climbing Committee.  In 2014, Mike received the ISA Ontario Chapter Volunteer Award for his contribution within our industry.

Mike has also been a strong advocate for supporting women in arboriculture.  He was instrumental in achieving the goal of having 10 women climbers at the 2015 Ontario Tree Climbing Championships (a first from any International Chapter) and has continued provide support to Women in Arboriculture Ontario.  To add of the laurels, Kelly’s Tree Care has gained a long standing reputation as a leader in hiring women arborists within the private sector.  Not surprisingly, Mike was honoured at this year’s conference as the first recipient of the “Good Feller Award” as chosen by the Women in Arboriculture Ontario committee.
